FAQ

What exactly does a birth doula do?

I provide continuous physical, emotional, and informational support through pregnancy, labor, birth, and the early postpartum hours — comfort measures, position changes, advocacy, and a calm, steady presence. I don't do clinical tasks (that's your provider's job), though as a monitrice and student midwife I bring an extra layer of understanding to your birth team.

When should I hire a doula?

As early as you like — my calendar fills up, and hiring early means more time together before the birth. That said, it's never too late to ask. If I have space, I'll make it work.

Do you attend VBACs? Hospital births? Home births?

Yes to all three. VBAC is one of my specialties, along with plus-sized birth, first-time parents, and difficult previous births. I support births wherever you choose to have your baby — home, hospital, or birth center.

Will you definitely be the doula at my birth?

I attend every birth I'm hired for personally, and I have trusted backup doulas in place for the rare emergency where I truly can't be there. I'm also upfront in our consult — if I already know I'll be out of town around your due date, you'll hear it from me then, so you have all the information before you decide. No surprises.

What's included in your birth support package?

Two prenatal visits, unlimited phone support, continuous in-person support through labor and birth, three postpartum visits, feeding support, and a backup doula. I'm on-call for you from 37 to 42 weeks.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes! I don't have preset plans — every family's situation is different, so just talk to me and we'll work out something that fits.

Do you accept insurance or Medicaid?

Not at this time. But I do provide full documentation that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

Do you take FSA or HSA?

Yes, absolutely — my client portal processes FSA and HSA cards.

Do you offer consultations?

Yes — free 30-minute virtual consultations. A no-pressure chat to see if we're a good fit.

Do you offer lactation support?

Yes — it's included in every service I offer, not sold separately. If feeding questions come up while we're working together, we talk through them right then and there — I'm happy to assess a latch or do a weighted feed. If you ever need more than I can provide within the service you've booked, I'll refer you to the best person for the job.

Can I hire you for just the birth itself, at a reduced rate?

I'll absolutely show up — if you're in labor and decide you want a doula, reach out. If I have the availability, I'll come, even if we've never met. But there's no discount for skipping the prenatal and postpartum visits. It may look like less work, but the prenatal work I do is a big part of what makes the birth go smoothly. Walking into a birth with no preparation is actually harder, not easier — so the fee stays the same.

What kinds of births do you support?

All of them. There's a myth out there that doulas only attend certain kinds of births. Some doulas do limit their practice, but I don't. Every birth deserves support. Every family deserves support. Every new parent deserves support.
